Paper Warehouse

The historical building of 3 Chrysospilotissis Street was built in the 1920s. One of the rare samples of Athenian eclecticism, it is thought to have originally belonged to the Tsar's family. While there are indications of domestic use, other sources suggest that the family used the space to safegaurd their horse carriages.

In 1963, ‘A & B Spiliotopoulos’ Paper Warehouse inhabited the ground and middle floor, where the business remained until 2000. The property was then signed over to the Hatzikonsta Foundation as a bequest, and remained closed for almost 2 decades until June 2017 when it hosted the first visual exhibition Reminders, curated and organized by Athens Intersection. Until this day, the interior preserves its original decorative features, as distinctive marks of architecture that claim the building's authenticity.

Athens Intersection realizes a series of visual art exhibitions, installations and performances at the Old Paper Warehouse, organized and curated by the Intersection team or in collaboration with other curators, with the participation of contemporary artists from all over the world. Additionally, the Warehouse was the main exhibition venue of the 6th International Back to Athens 6 Festival. The Paper Warehouse is courtesy of the Hatzikonstas Foundation, which reopened after 17 years through the Revitalization of the Commercial Triangle program Athens Trigono, of the Municipality of Athens.
