χθών και γαία / μαγειρείον vol.I

Με τις λέξεις χθων και γαῖα ονομάζονται δύο αντιθετικές όψεις της γης: χθών είναι ο κάτω κόσμος, κάτω από την επιφάνεια της γης, η γαῖα είναι η γη από την επιφάνεια προς τον ουρανό. Αυτή η διαφορά μεταξύ της επιφάνειας και όλων αυτών που βρίσκονται επάνω και κάτω από αυτήν βρίσκεται σε μία λεπτή γραμμή. Ενώ η χθων, ο κάτω κόσμος φαίνεται να είναι σκοτεινός, χωρίς ζωή και άγνωστος, είναι αυτός ακριβώς ο κόσμος που θρέφει όλα αυτά τα αγαθά που βρίσκονται στην επιφάνεια, παράγει τις σοδιές και την ευημερία του κόσμου μας.
«θρέφει όλα όσα βρίσκονται πάνω στην χθόνα» και παράγει τις σοδειές και τα αγαθά που πλουτίζουν τους ανθρώπους: για εκείνους που η γαῖα τιμά με την εύνοιά της «η σπαρμένη και ζωοπάροχη γη βρίθει από καρπούς, στα χωράφια τους τα ζωντανά ευημερούν, στο σπίτι τους υπάρχουν περίσσια πλούτη και κυβερνούν με δίκαιους νόμους τις πόλεις των όμορφων γυναικών» (στ. 9-11). 1. Πρόκειται για τον Ομηρικό Ύμνο «Εἰς Γαῖαν παμμήτειραν».
Χθών και γαῖα: Επειδή οι άνθρωποι ζουν πάνω στην λεπτή γραμμή της επιφάνειας, αυτήν ακριβώς που χωρίζει, αλλά και ενώνει την ουράνια και υπόγεια γη, τη ζωή και το θάνατο το παρόν και το παρελθόν μπορούν από τη σχέση αυτή, αλλά και την αντίφαση μεταξύ των δύο κόσμων να ορίσουν τις ενέργειές τους και να σχεδιάσουν το μέλλον. Στην εποχή μας ωστόσο οι άνθρωποι έχουν ξεχάσει και απαρνηθεί τη σχέση τους με τον χθόνιο κόσμο, ζουν μόνο στη Γαῖα. Όσο περισσότερο αποβάλλουν τη σκέψη του κάτω κόσμου, τόσο περισσότερο γίνεται η ζωή τους ημιτελής. Όσο περισσότερο ξεχνούν την γνώση τους τους για τα βάθη της Χθονός, που αντιμετωπίζεται μόνο ως αντικείμενο εκμετάλλευσης, τόσο περισσότερο ηλιόλουστη και χαρούμενη επιφάνεια της Γαίας δηλητηριάζεται και σιγά σιγά καταστρέφεται.
Στην έκθεση «χθών και γαῖα» οι καλλιτέχνες πειραματίζονται στο μεταίχμιο αυτής της λεπτής γραμμής μέσα σε έναν χώρο που προσομοιώνει αυτήν την αντιφατική σχέση σε ένα κτήριο που στέγαζε εργαστήρια εκκλησιαστικών σκευών και φέρει το βάρος εργαλείων και αντικειμένων που χρησιμοποιούνται στο τελετουργικό μέρος.

Η έκθεση «χθών και γαία / μαγειρείον vol.I» περιλαμβάνεται στην Open street fair «Local infection of the cosmopolitan» αφιερωμένη στην καρδιά της Αθήνας το Εμπορικό Τρίγωνο. Καλλιτέχνες από την Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό παρουσιάζουν έργα σε απρόσμενους χώρους, μουσικά δρώμενα, και περφόρμανς, αλλά και slam poetry, σε μια σπονδυλωτή περιήγηση στο αθηναϊκό Τρίγωνο.

The words chthon (soil) and gāῖa (earth) refer to two opposite aspects of the earth: chthon is the underworld, the surface below the earth, gāῖa is the earth from the surface and above. The intermediate border indicates a fine distinction of that which exists above and below the surface. While the chthon, the underworld, appears to be dark, lifeless and concealed, it is this very world that powers collective prosperity - nourishing and sustaining the agriculture and crops of our world.
«She feeds all creatures that are in the world»: for he whom is blessed by Gaia «has all things abundantly: his fruitful land is laden with corn, his pastures are covered with cattle, and his house is filled with good things. Such men rule orderly in their cities of fair women: great riches and wealth follow them…» Homeric Hymn to Gaia «To Earth Mother of All». (vv. 9-11).
Chthon and gāῖa: Societies live above the line of the earth’s surface, the very line that divides, but also unites the heavenly and underground sphere, life and death, present and past. Through this relationship and the contradiction between these two worlds, humanity can define their actions and navigate to the future.
In our time, however, people renounce their relationship with the chthonic world, they engage only with their existence on gāῖa. The more they reject the thought of the nether world, the more their life becomes incomplete. The more they deny knowledge on the depth of Chthonos, seen only as a mere object of exploitation, the more the sunny and happy surface of Gaia is infected, gradually depreciated and destroyed.
In the exhibition «soil and earth / magician vol.I», the artists explore and experiment on the border of this fine line, within a space that that clearly illustrates this contradiction and a building that carries the weight of a series of former ecclesiastical utensil workshops.
