Τα Παράθυρα
Σ’ αυτές τες σκοτεινές κάμαρες, που περνώ
μέρες βαρυές, επάνω κάτω τριγυρνώ
για νάβρω τα παράθυρα.— Όταν ανοίξει
ένα παράθυρο θάναι παρηγορία.—
Μα τα παράθυρα δεν βρίσκονται, ή δεν μπορώ
να τάβρω. Και καλλίτερα ίσως να μην τα βρω.
Ίσως το φως θάναι μια νέα τυραννία.

Η θέαση, ως διαδικασία και ως εμπειρία, συνήθως αφορμάται από την πρόκληση που το μάτι αντιμετωπίζει: βλέπει κάτι και θέλει το να δει καλύτερα. Πολύ μοιάζει με την ιστορία μέσα στην ιστορία ή την αφήγηση μέσα στην αφήγηση. Αυτή η συνθήκη, που συνήθως είναι μετα-νεωτερική, πόσο μπορεί να μάς ενδιαφέρει και γιατί μπορεί να μάς αφορά;
Η Amina Kortbi, η ζωγράφος όλων αυτών των πινάκων που βλέπετε κατά μήκος της Παροδίου Στοάς, αποπειράται και προβαίνει σε μια κατεξοχήν εικονολογική αποτύπωση: ξέρει ότι το κυρίαρχο στοιχείο σε μια Στοά είναι το seeing through και -αφού τα ισόγεια ανοίγματα είναι αρκετά- επιλέγει να μας αναπαραστήσει επιμέρους και διαφορετικές εκδοχές παραθύρων. Με τον τρόπο αυτό, γινόμαστε συν-μέτοχοι, αφού μαζί βλέπουμε και ίσως από κοινού παρατηρούμε. Μόνο που εδώ, σε αυτήν την έκθεση, υπογραμμίζεται η όλη πλαισίωση αυτής της οπτικής λειτουργίας, διότι είναι το framing που προσδιορίζει και ενδεχομένως περιορίζει όλα όσα θα ήθελε ένα μάτι να δει.
Έχουμε, επομένως, μια διαδοχή σκέψεων και κατανοήσεων, που αρχίζει με τις έννοιες, συνεχίζει με τα αρχιτεκτονικά δεδομένα που δεσμεύουν την Παρόδιο Στοά, τους πίνακες (που είναι και αυτοί πλαισιωμένοι) και τελειώνει με τα επιμέρους εικονιζόμενα: από τα μικρά και πολλά περιγράμματα ανοιγμάτων/openings μέχρι τις closed up λεπτομέρειες και από τις αιφνιδιαστικές διευρύνσεις έως τις φευγαλέες αντανακλάσεις ή φωτοσκιάσεις.
Η ζωγράφος μάς έχει προσφέρει ένα γενναιόδωρο σχολιασμό για μια, σχεδόν παραμελημένη, διάσταση της αστεακότητας (από τη λέξη το άστυ, -εως) που μας περιβάλλει.
Όλοι αυτοί οι πίνακες που προέκυψαν [με ελαιοχρώματα απλωμένα, έτσι ώστε είτε να σε πλησιάζει μια λεπτομέρεια, είτε να σε αποφεύγει, με τονισμούς φωτεινότητας από όλη τη διάρκεια της ημέρας και με σχήματα/μεγέθη που ποικίλλουν ανάλογα με την υπογράμμιση που η καλλιτέχνις επιδιώκει να σου προσφέρει] είναι μια εξαιρετικώς ενδιαφέρουσα, αν όχι συναρπαστική, εικαστική αντίστιξη στο ποίημα του μεγάλου αλεξανδρινού.

Viewing, as a process and as an experience, is usually provoked by what catches our attention: initially, we see something and then we intent to look again better. This mode of operation resembles very much the concept of the story within a story or the narrative within the narrative. To what extent this condition, which is usually post-modern, may interest and concern us?
Amina Kortbi, the maker of all these paintings you see on display along the Side-way Stoa, attempts and proceeds towards an iconological imprint par excellence. She knows that the dominant feature of a Stoa is the seeing through element of it, and -since the ground level openings are fair enough- she chooses to represent particularities and variations of different windows. By this way, we all become co-participants of the very process of seeing and perhaps of observing. Yet, in this exhibition the entire optical operation is underlined by the entire set up, because it is the framing that defines and probably restrains all that an eye can see.
Therefore, we have a succession of thoughts and understandings that commences with notions, continues with the architectural elements that bind the Stoa, the paintings (that happen to be framed, too) and ends up with the specific depictions of the small and many outlines of the openings to the closed up details, along with the sudden widening of the feeble reflections or the chiaroscuro renderings.
The artist has offered a very generous commentary on an almost neglected dimension, namely that of urbanitas which surround us.
All these paintings that Amina Kortbi created, [with spread-over oil paints that give the impression of details approaching or avoiding you, with gradations of tonality that echo the daily light’s duration and with shapes and sizes that vary in accordance to the significance the painter intents to suggest to you] are extremely interesting, if not fascinating, visual counterpoints to the great Alexandrian’s poem.
